Have you ever heard about information–action ratio?
Prior to the telegraph, Postman says people received information relevant to their lives, creating a high correlation between information and action: “The information-action ratio was sufficiently close so that most people had a sense of being able to control some of the contingencies in their lives” (p. 69).
If you flip a coin ten times and get ten heads, you should be surprised. If you flip sixteen thousand coins ten times each, you can expect to get ten heads about sixteen times—and should not be surprised when you do.
